We decided to continue with a princess movie theme this week for our Disney Dinner & A Movie Night, and we watched Snow White. If I’m honest, Snow White has never been my favorite Disney princess. That being said, the film is just classic Disney, and I love it for that reason. My daughter wasn’t a huge fan of Snow White either, but she loved the dwarfs and the song “Hi-Ho.”
When deciding what I would make for dinner, I decided to base our meal off of the movie itself. In the movie, Snow White makes the dwarfs a stew, and I wanted to do the same for our meal. Although the stew in the film is probably something traditionally German, I made a basic stew that I knew my daughter and husband would eat.
I tossed my stew meat in flour, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper, and then I browned it on the stove. Once that was done, I put it in my crockpot with carrots, mini potatoes, and beef stock and set the crockpot to cook on high for 8 hours. I loved being able to throw our dinner together in the morning and not worry about it all day.
Once I had our dinner together, cooking itself, I decided to focus on dessert. In the movie, Snow White makes a gooseberry pie for Grumpy, but I wanted to make traditional (but mini) apple pie. My daughter loved helping me make our mini apple pies; her favorite part of making pies was helping me peel and core the apples with our apple peeler.
I used a straightforward apple recipe because I wanted my daughter to be able to help and not worry about messing up anything complicated. I even used Pillsbury Refrigerated Pie Crusts (my grandma would be ashamed), but it turned out really yummy. After we ate our dinner, we topped the mini pies with vanilla ice cream and gobbled them up!
Snow White was such a fun movie to watch as a family. My favorite part of our new Disney Dinner & A Movie Night tradition isn’t the food or the movies; it’s the memories we create as a family. With everything going on in the world, we try to stay home as much as possible, and this gives us something to look forward to on Friday nights. I hope that our movie night meals inspire you to create fun memories with your family.
Sending love and magic.
